Statement for the Record - Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Hearing

The Puerto Rico Statehood Action Network submitted a statement for the record to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee for their hearing on the "State of U.S. Territories." The statement demands that the Committee address the issue of resolving Puerto Rico's territory status directly, and expresses support for S. 780 the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Act.

51 Organizations call on House panel to move on Puerto Rico statehood

Fifty-one organizations have signed on to a letter calling on the House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Raul Grijalva and Ranking Member Bruce Westerman to bring the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Act (H.R. 1522 and S. 780) up for a markup vote. The organizations also expressed support for a possible compromise bill option as long as it’s a direct plebiscite vote between the constitutionally viable non-territory options of statehood and independence.

LULAC Renews Call for U.S. Congress to Take Action on Puerto Rico Statehood

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is issuing a renewed call for Congressand the Biden Administration to take up the issue of statehood for Puerto Rico, and says resolution of the question is long overdue.Last November, 53% of Puerto Rico voters in a non-binding referendumsaid yes to statehood, 47% opposed it. Officials said 55% of the island’s voters participated. There are 3.2 million people in Puerto Rico.

51 organizations, 44 of which are based in Puerto Rico, signed on to a letter in support of the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Act (H.R. 1522 and S. 780) calling on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to approve that legislation. The organizations also expressed opposition to the new Puerto Rico status bill presented by Rep. Nydia Velázquez, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortéz, Sen. Bob Menendez and Sen. Bernie Sanders.
